The Armored Battalion was formed 2 Feb 1939 from the first and second armored companies (raised Mar 1935 and Sep 1936 respectively), however the companies continue to be used as independent units. The companies were used for guarding the borders and training, though elemts of the Battalion took part in the occupation of South Dobrudja. Following the Bulgarian decision to join the Axis, the battalion begins training with German troops, notably 16. Panzer-Division.
The Battalion is upgraded to the
Armored Regiment 25 June 1941.
