(Samovozna trupa)
by H.L. deZeng IV

Experienced motor transport officers and men of the former Royal Yugoslav Army were assembled in Zagreb and Osijek in April 1941 and used to form the NDH’s first motor transport unit. During May, June and July, additional units were established and by the end of the summer of 1941 there were two battalion staffs (I and II), two chauffeur or staff car companies (1st and 2d) and seven motor transport or truck companies (1st – 7th). The motor transport branch was reorganized in November 1941 in conjunction with the establishment of the three corps commands and many of the individual companies were renumbered or re-designated. In addition to the motor transport units, a number of horse-drawn supply companies and platoons were formed for the Domobran infantry divisions and later for the various brigades. But these were organic to the unit they belonged to and will not be covered here.
