Formed fall 1942 with HQ to be located in Strizivojna/34 km ENE of Slavonski Brod to guard the railway line between Zagreb and Zemun, and between Bosanski Brod and Sarajevo. (1)

Dec 42: planned area of formation and employment changed to Sunja/67 km SSE of Zagreb.
11 Mar 43: the Battalion lost 3 killed, 9 wounded and 134 captured during a night attack on the Sunja train station by the Banija NOP Detachment, which burned down most of the buildings and destroyed a significant amount of equipment.
May 43: Bn. HQ in Sunja.
Sep 43: Sunja with 1st – 4th Co. under Railway Security Sector E. Said to be at only 86% of its authorized strength.
30 Apr 44: Bn. HQ in Sunja, 1st Co. in Brdani, 2d Co. in Saš, 3d Co. in Živaja and 4th Co. in Sunja - under Railway Security Sector E with a reported Battalion strength of 507.
30 Sep 44: unchanged from 30 April 1944, but only remnants remained of the Battalion.
1 Dec 44: what was left of the X Railway Security Battalion was reassigned to the newly formed 19th (Domobran) Infantry Brigade/14th Croatian Infantry Division on or about this date.
