Formed 29 June 1941 with Rgt. HQ in Vinkovci. The Regiment was re-designated 6th Jäger Regiment (1st Jäger Brigade) in May 1943. (1)
Operational History
1941
Jul 41: after the Regiment was formed, it was operational in the Brčko – Bijeljina area from the fall of 1941 to May 1943.
6 Sep 41: II Bn. already deployed in Zvornik.
26 Nov 41: III Bn. in Koraj/27 km W of Bijeljina, but attacked by Partisans and forced to withdraw to the village of Celić, 5 km further west.
1942
25 May 42: II Bn. transferred from Bijeljina to Slavonski Brod this date.
17 Jun 42: V Bn. reportedly in Teočak/W Bosnia.
Jul 42: II Bn. replenished with 100 men from Ustasha Preparatory Bn. Vuka and 150 men from Ustasha Preparatory Bn. Posavje.
19 Sep 42: 25th Co. was attacked by the Bosutska Partisan Company near Sremska Rača in Syrmia and lost some ammunition which was carted away by the enemy.
Oct 42: II Bn. now in Sirač near Daruvar attached to the Slavonian Brigade, and III Bn. in Brčko.
11-12 Dec 42: II Bn. was overrun in Voćin by 12th Slavonian Brigade NOU and forced to withdraw to Virovitica, losing 11 killed plus 7 officers and 176 men captured.
17-20 Dec 42: III Bn. participated in Operation “Tuzla II” in the Tuzla area.
1943
8 Jan 43: I Bn. was ambushed by elements of the Majevica NOP Detachment near Bijeljina with light losses while claiming 20 Partisans killed.
22 Jan 43: IV Bn. in Modriča/31 km SE of Slavonski Brod and V Bn. in Bijeljina.
26 Jan 43: II Bn. in Čačinci/26 km NW of Našice and still attached to Slavonian Brigade.
27 Jan 43: V Bn. in Bijeljina carried out a sweep in villages south of there but had only light contact with the enemy.
18 Feb 43: 23d Co. was ambushed by elements of the Majevica NOP Detachment along the road near Bijeljina and taken prisoner (2 officers and 100 men) after brief resistance.
27 Feb 43: III Bn. transferred from Brčko to Slavonia for Operation “Grün” in the Krndija and Dilj Mountains.
19 Mar – 2 Apr 43: IV Bn. took part in Operation “Braun” in the Slavonska Požega area.
5 Apr 43: II Bn. was ambushed by elements of the Majevica NOP Detachment in the village of Suhopolje near Bijeljina losing 11 KIA, 33 WIA and 185 captured.
16 Apr 43: III Bn. was overrun and destroyed in Janja near Bijeljina by the 1st Vojvodina NOU Brigade, losing 10 KIA, including the battalion commander, Bojnik Boroš, 3 WIA and 165 captured.
May 43: Regiment ordered to Derventa and Doboj to reorganize as 6th Jäger Regiment (1st Jäger Brigade).
