(Banjalučki zdrug) (1st Formation)

Formed in October/November 1941 with HQ in Banja Luka as a composite tactical formation to direct the employment of Croatian forces in the Banja Luka area. Some or most of the personnel are believed to have come from the disbanded Sanski Brigade. (1)


Operational History

Jun – Jul 42: took part in Operation “West-Bosnien” in the Kozara region north and east of Banja Luka.
11 Nov 42: Banja Luka tactically under German 714. Inf.Div.
4 Jan 43: Brigade fought a brief engagement with elements of the 5th Assault Division NOVJ near the village of Šehovci in the Sanski Most area with light losses on both sides.
28 Feb 43: Banja Luka - no mention of the Brigade has been found after this date and it is believed to have been disbanded and its assets incorporated into the Jäger regiments then being formed.
