In mid-March 1945, three and a half months after the Croatian armed forces were reorganized into 16 divisions, it was decided to disband the three existing Domobran territorial corps and form five new corps commands. Each was to control three or four divisions deployed in a defensive perimeter around the eastern, southern and southwestern approaches to Zagreb. In the final two weeks of the war, the corps gradually fell back on Zagreb and then began a fighting withdrawal north to the Austrian border.
