The Panzer-Abteilung (Fkl) 302 was formed on 15 October 1942. It was disbanded on 25 January 1943 with one company forming Panzer-Kompanie (Fkl) 312 and the other companies became part of Panzer-Abteilung (Fkl) 301.

It was reformed in July 1944 from Panzer-Kompanie (Fkl) 311, Panzer-Kompanie (Fkl) 315, Panzer-Kompanie (Fkl) 316 and Panzer-Kompanie (Fkl) 317. It took part in the crushing of the Warsaw Uprising.

The "(Fkl)" in the name was for "Funklenk", a reference to the radio-controlled demolition vehicles used.
