The Panzer-Kompanie 223 was formed on 6 February 1942 equipped with captured French tanks and was sent to Heeresgruppe Süd later the same month. It was assinged to the 22. Panzer-Division for training purposes. It became the first company of Panzer-Abteilung 223 on 24 June.
