When Panzer-Abteilung 40 was withdrawn from Finland to strengthen 25. Panzer-Division in Norway it left its most out of date tanks in Finland, three Panzer III and 16 Panzer I B. The new formation was known as the Panzer-Sicherungskompanie but was soon given the name Panzer-Kompanie 40.
It was disbanded in June 1943 with the personnel going to the Panzer-Ersatz ind Ausbildungs-Abteilung 5, one office, 11 NCOs and 47 enlisted men.
