The Sturm-Mörser-Kompanie 1001 was formed on 23 September 1944 to be equipped with Sturmtigers, a self propelled armored mortar built on Tiger I chassi. It took part in the Ardennes offensive and fought around Düren and Euskirchen.
It was transferred to the artillery and redesignated Sturm-Mörser-Batterie 1001 on 23 January 1945. In February the crews destroyed three vehicles as spare parts and fuel were no longer available, the last vehicle withdrew across the Rhine.

In some sources it is listed as Sturmtiger-Kompanie 1001.
