The 2. Infantry Division Littorio (2. Divisione Granatieri "Littorio") was formed in April 1944 as one of the divisions of the Fascist Repubblica Sociale Italiana (RSI) (Italian Social Republic) and was trained in Westphalia by German instructors. In December it was in place on the Alps front as part of LXXV Armeekorps and the mixed German-Italian Armee Ligurien commanded by Maresciallo d’Italia Rodolfo Graziani and was located between the 34. Infanterie-Division and 5. Gebirgs-Division. It remained on the western section of the front in Italy until the end of April when the subunits began surrendering to the Allied forces.
