Pola was sunk 29 March 1941 by torpedoes from the British destroyers HMS Jervis and HMS Nubian  in the Battle of Cape Matapan. She had been immobilized the evening of the previous day by a torpedo launched by a British carrier-borne aircraft from HMS Formidable.
