The 153. Infantry Division Macerata was mobilized in December 1941 as a depot division. It remained in Italy until June 1942 when it was transferred to Slovenia. In May 1943 it was transferred to Delnice in Croatia and it was captured by the German forces there in September.

This unit took part in anti-partisan operations in Croatia.
