The 276. Volksgrenadier-Division was formed in September 1944 from the partially formed 580. Volksgrenadier-Division. It was transferred to the Western Front in December fighting the the Battle of the Bulge losing two thousand men, including its commander Generalleutnant Kurt Möhring, in the fighting. It fought the US forces north of Luxembourg and at the Rhine with the last surviving elements being destroyed in March 1945.
