The Festung Dünkirchen (Dunkirk) was surrounded by the Allied forces in September 1944 and would not surrender until the end of the war.
The Allied forces were primarily the 1st Czechoslovak Armoured Brigade but also the 5th Canadian Infantry Brigade and the 4th Special Service Brigade in September and the 154th British Infantry Brigade in September and October.
