The SS-Sturmbann Oberbayern (SS-Wachsturmbann I Oberbayern) was formed in March 1935 from the guard detachment at Dachau.
It was upgraded to regimental size on 1 July 1937 and redesignated SS-Totenkopf-Standarte 1 Oberbayern.

A cuff title with the text "Oberbayern" was authorized for this unit.
