The SS-Freiwilligen-Regiment Siebenbürgen was formed near Lake Balaton in Hungary in August 1944 with most of the soldiers being boys from the Deutschen Jugend organization (the equivalent of the
Hitlerjugend) and the officers from the Waffen-SS and Wehrmacht. The manpower was transferred to the
Florian Geyer division in October.
This unit is listed under several different names including
HJ-Regiment Siebenbürgen,
Freiwilligen-Regiment Siebenbürgen and
SS-Ersatzbataillon Siebenbürgen.
